Educational Trip to Singapore: A Glorious journey of BRIMS PGDM

BRIMS had planned an educational tour for their PGDM students to Singapore from 18th January to 24thJanuary 2017. Dr Vijay Bedekar, Chairman Vidya Prasarak Mandal, encouraged the students to make the most out of this trip and take it a lifetime experience. All five days blinked to notice that Singapore is truly fascinating and different from other countries. It is one of the wonderfully developed countries and one should surely visit once in their lifetime, says Tejal Thakkar (PGDM student). She shares her experience on the development of Singapore and their business strategies which makes Singapore a developed nation. The tour started with the visit of students to National Library of Singapore It is the flagship building of the National Library Board, bringing together the core functions of the old library by incorporating a reference library, known as the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library.

It is one of the best libraries I have ever visited. Although it does not look like a traditional library, it had really good collections. It is a readers retreat if you are in Singapore. I really admire the way they have maintained the whole place - a feedback give by Rahul Rao (PGDM student). Students thanked Dr S Agarkar for being such a great guide throughout the visit at the library.

It was a new sunny day 20th Jan Friday and students were excited to go on maritime trail series. Singapore Maritime Trails is conceptualized and organized by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore as part of its outreach. Students were taken from the time of the Singapura Kings to the establishment of Singapore as shipping and other maritime activities. It started around the mouth of the Singapore River and moved westwards to the Telok Ayer area and then out to the New Harbour of Keppel Harbour. A tour of 2.5 hrs was a roller coaster ride says Ashwini Sakpal (PGDM Student).

On the same day students visited National University of Singapore. Students interacted with 3 eminent professors in their classroom. They experienced a life-long learning from the epitome of knowledgeable professors. The session was started by Prof. Dutta who briefed them about Communication and new media learning. It was then taken over by Prof Sameer Deshpande, who highlighted new trends in management. The day ended by 10 life mantras shared by Prof. Rohit Ambekar.

On 21st Jan they visited new water plant which was a guided tour of the most high-tech water treatment plant in the world – one capable of turning sewage into drinking water. Every Drop counts – a thump rule adopted by all PGDM students after the visit.

On 22nd Jan students were thrilled to visit Sentosa island a barren land that was converted into an amusement park.

The 500-hectare resort island is home to an exciting array of themed attractions, lush rainforests and golden sandy beaches. The day ended at Sentosa with a cherry on the top by Wings of Time – an award winning night laser show.

23rd Jan early morning they left for Singapore Management University a publicly-funded autonomous university in Singapore that specializes in business and management studies. SMU is ranked as one of Asia's top universities. Its state of art technology and infrastructure makes it a great place to learn says Dipti Periwal PGDM Coordinator. Students had interacted with Mr. Chris – Director - International Trading Institute. The first trading institute in the world to be set up within a university. He highlighted growth of Singapore and compared it with its competing nations like China.

Learn how Ikea became the world's biggest furniture store was the vision of our director- Dr Nitin Joshi so on the day of departure 24th Jan, they visited world’s largest home furnishing store- IKEA. A great place to go if you are looking for durable, inexpensive & unique furniture. The store was visited to enable students to study their Business model as they noticed that most of the pieces can be self collected, self assembled. Students also visited their logistic department and witnessed that packaging and dispatching was so smooth.

Finally it was time to say good bye to Singapore with lots of memories and leanings.
