National Conference on theme “Momentous rise of Indian Start-ups, Trajectory to growth”

VPM's DR VN Bedekar Institute of Management Studies (BRIMS) recently organized the national National Conference on theme “Momentous rise of Indian Start ups, Trajectory to growth” on 4 th February 2017. The Conference aimed to bring together leading corporate, academicians, entrepreneurs and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences, issues, challenges, and success stories of Indian start-ups. It also provided the premier inter-disciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns, practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted in the Indian start-ups including the major contribution. Conference started with opening remarks by Dr.Smita Jape followed by the welcome address from the Director of Institute, Dr. Nitin Joshi. Dr. Nitin Joshi emphasized on key definitions, challenges, issues for Start-ups and Institute's contribution to encourage entrepreneurship to the young minds. He informed the audience about recently organized Industrial visit of PGDM students at Singapore which made students understand and expose the dynamic and changing business environment, Dr Joshi iterated the Institute’s unique initiative of running the start up programs for all young generations aspire to start their own ventures. He announced the next year's theme of national conference on “Technology and Management in a Knowledge Society-Innovate, Integrate, Inspire” which is going to be held in February 2018. The speech was followed by the release of Institute's annual research journal “SRUJAN” in the presence of all dignitaries across the country.

Dr.Guruprasad Murthy, Director General, DR VN BRIMS, addressed the audience on the statistics on entrepreneurship and global scenario in the field of Start ups.

Mr. Deepak Pramanik, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, AIDIAS Consulting was the chief Guest of the conference. His experiential speech ignited the young minds. He explained the key skill sets required for entrepreneurship which includes ambition, imagination, opportunism, passion, quest for growth, risk taking ability, speed in action. This was followed by the oration of Mr. Pankajkumar Jain, CEO ,ICA Edu Skills Pvt. Ltd who was invited as guest of honor speech. Mr. Pratik Singhi CEO Lakshya Consulting gave keynote address. He explained the difference between entrepreneurship, business and start ups with recent case examples.

The video explaining the activities and efforts taken by the Entrepreneurship Cell actively working under the guidance of Prof Akshay Vyavahare of the Institute was shown during the conference.

National conference also had expert eminent guests for panel discussion on start-ups, their growth, experiences and entrepreneurship journey in the context of Indian economic reforms and global opportunities.

Dr.Medha Mehendale, Founder and CEO, Tanvi Hourbal Products, Mr. Ajay Shrivastava. Mr Debraj Das were the panel members for the discussions. The session was moderated by Prof Dipti Periwal, Dr V N BRIMS, Thane.

DR VN BRIMS also felicitated Mr. Gitesh Dhotre Alumni of batch 2011-13.for his successful venture. Audience appreciated the experiences shared by Mr Gitesh.

Second half of the day consisted of the research paper presentations. Management Faculties across the country, professionals and representatives from the industries, Students across the management institutes participated for the presentations. The sessions were evaluated by Dr. Bharat Kulkarni, Dr. Sudhakar Agarkar, Dr.Smita Jape and Prof Sukhada Tambe. The best paper from faculties and students were adjudged and the winners were awarded certificates. The paper presented by team of Mr.Vaibhav Patil, Research associate from fractional column consultancy and Dr Sativender Singh Bedi won the Best paper award, Paper presented by Prof Mahesh M Bhanushali, Dr VN BRIMS awarded with the second best paper presentation.

From students category the team of Ms Bijal Shah and Ms Karishma Salvi from MET Institute won the best paper presentation award however Mr Parth Deshmukh and Mr. Ayushi Porwal from MET won second best paper presentation.
