EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO SINGAPORE : A SPLENDID JOURNEY OF BRIMS PGDM

Dr V. N. Bedekar Institute of Management Studies had planned an educational tour for their PGDM students to Singapore from 21st January to 25th January 2018. The learning journey started right from landing at the Changi Airport, which is one of the best and busiest airports in the world. Speed is the name of the game for the airport as in no spam of time it can ensures hassle free immigration for arriving travelers and minimal touch down time. These smooth operations can be due to result of highly disciplined approach towards process design- says Dr Nitin Joshi- Director- BRIMS.

After arriving at the hotel Dr Vijay Bedekar, Chairman Vidya Prasarak Mandal, addressed the students and encouraged them to make the most out of this trip and take it as a lifetime experience. All five days blinked to notice that Singapore is truly fascinating and different from other countries. It is one of the wonderfully developed countries and one should surely visit once in their lifetime, says Priyanka Kamble (PGDM student). The tour started on 21st January with the visit of students to New Water Plant, which was a guided tour of the most high-tech water treatment plant in the world – one capable of turning sewage into drinking water. Every Drop counts – was learning for all PGDM students after the visit.

The very next day morning students got an opportunity to hear stimulating speech by Dr Nitin Pangarkar –Academic Director at National University of Singapore on “Strategies of Singapore as a country”. He discussed about Singapore global businesses, a little red dot in the sea of green. He also highlighted new trends in management. The session ended with series of question and answers.

On 23rd Jan, a factory tour of Yakut- (fermented milk drink) was arranged for students to have an overview of the production, packaging process and the distribution channel of the fast moving consumer product. Students discovered that other than finding Yakult in our local supermarkets and convenient stores, the unique distribution channel are their ladies sales representatives known as Yakult Ladies. These representatives are very effective as they can better reach out and communicate with their customers in spite of the digital marketing era with their personal selling skills.

The very last day in Singapore was cherry on the top. A lecture was scheduled in Singapore Management University for the students by Mr. Christopher Chow- Director – International Trading Institute. He gave a food for thought to all the students as to how all information and observations during this entire trip can be converted into knowledge and applicability of the same can be done in our home country. He also shared the education pattern and unique teaching pedagogy adopted in SMU.

Students could also encapsulate some leisure time and visited Universal studio and Night Safari. Finally it was time to say good bye to Singapore with lots of memories and leanings for lifetime.
