MMS Management Degree College in Thane - Blog - Growth Mindset: Are you Ready?

Do you think or believe that you have been gifted with some skills and abilities during your birth which will be with you till the end of your life and you don’t need anything else? Or

Are you of an opinion that skills and knowledge grow with new experience if you work towards it and one has to keep evolving himself with new ideas and principles while moving ahead in life?

If you said “yes” to the first question, then you have what is called as a “fixed mindset.” If you said “yes” to the second question, then you probably have what Stanford professor Carol Dweck calls a “growth mindset."

As per Carol Dweck, an American psychologist, who has done deep study in the topic stated that there are 2 types of mindsets: Fixed and Growth. Individuals who believe that their talent or capabilities can be developed by working hard have a growth mindset whereas Individuals who believe that the talent they have is a gift of God and further cannot be enhanced have a Fixed mindset. Usually, people with growth mindset are very ambitious and open to learning. They put all their energy in trying to find out how can they become better in their work every day. Growth mindset has become a buzz word but very few truly understand the meaning and work for the same.

Why is having growth mindset important?

No businesses today are working without risks and challenges. Organizations prefer people who are risk takers, innovators and enjoy challenging tasks as they believe that these are the people who would take their organization ahead. People with growth mindset often build new skills proactively and work towards the same. Having a growth mindset could led to a meaningful life as one may encompass a broader experience

How to develop Growth Mindset?

  • By Finding Purpose: Do you know the purpose of your life? Until that is not clear you would not get the right direction. Sit with yourself or contemplate to find out the real purpose of your life. Once you get that, the purpose shall drive you to build a growth mindset

  • Ask for Feedback: Never hesitate to ask for feedback. Feedback shall help you to build a base for your behaviour. People with growth mindset always seek for feedback from others and value the same as it gives them the map to move ahead.

  • Building Strategies: Keep questioning yourself with every task you do that have I utilized my all potential, Have I given my 100%, is there anything beyond this I can do? Once you get answers to these questions try building your strategies for progress and what can be done to achieve the same.

  • Choosing Difficult and Different Tasks: Challenge yourself with tasks which are different from your routine and difficult. Once you achieve the success with these tasks the satisfaction is immense and builds towards the journey of growth.

  • Attitude is key: If you value having a growth mindset, then take the time and make the effort to develop it. Continue working and opportunities will come. Have resilience along the way

As you work on your mind, choose to make extra efforts that would result into greater returns and success and have a meaningful life which can be cherished.
