B-schools are now greener pastures, and an MBA is a ticket to a white-collar job. The general trend to join MBA program is because – Oh! My Friends and me have decided to pursue MBA (No real study/research, at times even information gathering) done. Flow with the tide – it gives a secured feeling in a Master’s program plus there is too much of positive publicity by the media and the B-Schools. So enrol first and then participate the way one can, It may be wise to be flexible in the goals to pursue, still it is silly to devote time and effort without a proper information on the course.

MBA is far more gruelling irrespective of the MBA School. Students have to meet simultaneous deadline on their assignments, sleepless nights, awareness of the personal gaps and the requirements of the coursework, causing stress. Along with this is the competition, a race to be creative scoring brownies, and a constant fear of failure.
In fact most of the admissions done do not deserve because of the lack of foundation level intelligence and skills leave alone the industry experience. Communication skills, presentation skills are absent in most of the students admitted. They are unable to interact but the MBA degree appears to be a last resort of saving credentials. It is mostly a matter of prestige to them and parents/guardians. Such students have never thought to train themselves for a business degree but decide to continue their education passively the way they did during under-grad years.
To be successful in life skills are more important. Skills like time management, communication skills, teamwork, and leadership skills will help to make a successful career. If an employee is unable to perform these skills then the employee is just educated and not learned. Education will not matter.
Having a degree is important but the Focus on the degree is not. Education degree can be used for opening the door to employment or job of choice, but having the right skills will earn further promotions and increments.
While changing jobs employer looks at the experience an incumbent has and the skills that has been gained. Education is just supportive of telling the employer that the incumbent has sat into the classroom for so many hours, being attentive and not doing anything awkward than other students in the examination. The degree only informs that the incumbent has attended the course but does not detail the skills gathered in the course.
Employers are going to ask for potential an incumbent carries and not just certificate that makes the incumbent eligible to do a particular job. For example a degree in computers do not say whether the student having that degree can write a code, or student having business management degree understands business, can take appropriate decisions.
Many a time students are stressed out deciding the major to be selected. The idea of selecting a major is making a career and student fret it out. If the degree in the major selected guaranteed a job then it makes real sense. But that is not the case. Most of the time the major to graduate and the job pursued has no relation. There are certain jobs that have relation with the degree, for example accounting, architecture, computer science, and engineering. But largely the degree has no much influence on the success in career.
Degree once was important and it was good that someone has a degree, today it is treated as a pre-requisite to be allowed at the door of an opening. In what field/major is the degree does not really matter. Individuals who pursued their major of choice does not extraordinary in their careers in respect to other landing in the line of business with some other majors. For example one does not need to major in English to be a writer, study business to become a consultant, study political science to get a job in government. The value to a degree obtained is very less in comparison to the attitude and ethics. Also those who have studied medicine, law not necessarily end up gaining greater success though degrees in these fields are directly correlated to the profession. Experience counts more than the majors.
Employers are interested in knowing whether the incumbent gets adapted into the culture, can perform the assigned task in time and be responsive in performance. Soft skills are needed in future.
Happiness drives success. So in case of even selecting a major it is selected because the student feels happy to work in that field, the chances of success are maximised.
Networking is an important aspect to be successful. A student may be smart, intelligent, and open to new ideas but hardly anyone knows that. This is why those who want to be successful have to equally work hard on building relationships and networking with others.
Intelligence leads to worthy existence.
